Why Don't We Talk About 8 Letters
The music industry is one of the toughest places to earn a career in and it often requires that you have something remarkable that makes you stand out. With the return of the boy band, there has been plenty of attention focused on musical groups; but this typically costs record labels time and money to build up an audience. However in the case of Why Don’t We, there was something different, almost magical, that allowed them to break records and catapult into worldwide success within a short time period. Jack Avery, Corbyn Besson, Zach Herron, Jonah Marais, and Daniel Seavey have just celebrated their second year as a band this past Thursday and coming off the release of their first album last month, are about to head on their second European tour.
It’s here. We hope this album makes you feel. Whether it be happiness, sadness, or excitement, we hope you all enjoy every second of it. Our lives and our careers so far have led up to this moment. But how on earth are five guys able to create so much buzz surrounding their band?
In interview after interview the boys attribute their success to social media because it’s where they all got their start. Each began as a solo artist and later befriended one another during various social media tours and events. As solo artists, each boy was able to build an audience of his own and upon their decision to create a band, their fans joined together as well to support each of their boys on this journey. But even that isn’t the recipe for the success that these boys have had.
Since the official formation of the band in 2016, they released two ep’s and went on their first tour within their first year as a band. Then on their first anniversary, they released their third ep, which they toured this past March and April. They also were on the Jingle Ball tour in 2017, which featured artists like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.
Their discography is impressive and all, but what's more impressive is how these massive events all took place within a year or two.
They are constantly creating music and posting covers and mashups for their fan base to enjoy: always leaving them wanting more. Not only that but that success they attribute to social media, also includes their presence online. The boys utilize their Instagram and Twitter accounts to interact with their fans almost on a daily basis allowing them to feel like there is a close personal connection to the boys. From this fans are able to see them in the studio recording music and at rehearsals for upcoming shows so they can tell just how hard they work to produce great content for them.

And the fans? They reciprocate this energy right back. Over this past summer, with only hours notice, Why Don’t We released the first single “Talk” from their debut album which went to #1 on the overall iTunes charts in the matter of just twelve hours.

In addition to the music they’ve filmed multiple videos to strengthen that relationship they have with their fans and they’re planning the release of their book at the end of the month.

They’ve earned their success through word of mouth and consistency in the creation of their content that leaves their “Limelights” both satisfies and hungry for more. These boys have already had so much success as it is within these past two years, but the journey has only begun. If you were to describe Why Don’t We’s journey this far, similar to the title of their debut album “8 Letters” you would have to say that so far, Why Don’t We’s journey has been “a success.”
