Cloud Nine.
The entertainment industry is quite possibly one of the most difficult places to start a career within. But as a result of the Internet, there has also been this overflow of talent that has poured out of the hidden crevices of the Internet and made its way to the very top of the charts. One example of this is Justin Bieber, the singer started out on YouTube and once he was discovered, his career blew him up to mega-stardom. There have been a multitude of success stories similar to his including Shawn Mendes (who found his claim to fame via Vine) and Why Don’t We (the group found each other and were discovered through social media apps like YouTube and YouNow).
But now that this career is arguably more accessible to the masses, it is also twice as hard to become discovered. There has to be something different to set you apart from your fellow artists. So whilst artists are deciding on how they will distinguish themselves in their musical styles, they can rest a little easier in knowing that SoundCloud and Instagram have now created a new feature for them to share their music with their audience. Recently released on October 23, artists are going to have a much easier time sharing their music similarly to how Spotify users could share their music.
Word of mouth is the most difficult vehicle to rely on for promotion of your brand. But this new Instagram feature makes the spread of information a little bit easier. As a result of this feature, I can look up this person’s music and have easier access to the songs he puts out. This could help the artists not only grow their fanbase and create more content for them, but it could also help then with that discovery they need in order to have access to more professional resources and “break through” the industry.

With this new feature content creators will be able to reach a much larger audience. While typically they would have more followers who are on their page specifically for their music, with the ginormous platform Instagram has, it would seem more likely that artists will have more followers on their Instagram. Some of these followers may not even be aware of the fact that these artists create music. For instance, a former classmate of mine puts out his music on SoundCloud. But because we follow each other online but no longer see each other, I would not know that he had an interest in music at all.Say goodbye to screenshots 📱 Start sharing your music discoveries from SoundCloud directly to your Instagram Stories - what will you share first? https://t.co/TI11tLKI4Y pic.twitter.com/DweJH7lgHt— SoundCloud (@SoundCloud) October 23, 2018

Just as Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes were discovered online, so too could new artists who release their music via SoundCloud. This feature allows for the reach of an artist’s message to get to many more people including those with influence in the industry. A potential manager looking for new talent could find them through a direct message of these Instagram stories or through a search through Instagram stories on the Explorer page. While this may take a lot of work, these SoundCloud artists will appreciate these tools that Instagram and SoundCloud provided them with for launching their careers when they're on Cloud Nine looking back at the incredible journey they took.Discover new music and share it with the world via Instagram Stories 📲 pic.twitter.com/mmdRgYB5Gx— SoundCloud (@SoundCloud) October 23, 2018
